Katie Holmes Divorces Tom Cruise After 5 Years

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorced.
Holmes, 33, who came to fame* as the star of television teen drama “Dawson’s Creek” in 1998, was the one who asked for the divorce, so she will not receive a big portion of Cruise’s estimated* $270  million.  However, he will pay out $10 million in child support for their daughter Suri, who is now 6, between now and her 18th birthday.

In Happier Times

Holmes will have primary custody* of Suri, but Cruise will be allowed to see her.  He also has two adopted children from his second marriage, to Australian actress Nicole Kidman.  They are now teenagers.
This is Cruise’s third divorce.  Coincidentally,* they have all happened when his wives were 33 years old.
The two have not spoken publicly about the reasons for the divorce but it is widely believed that Cruise’s belief* in Scientology is the main cause.
The  two issued* this statement*: “We are committed* to working together as parents to accomplish* what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters* affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”
However, it has been reported* that part of the agreement is that Cruise is forbidden* to take Suri to a Scientology church or any Scientology meetings.  Many people see Scientology as more of a cult than a religion.  Holmes is Catholic.

Child Star to Marry Action Adventure Hero

Miley Cyrus, 19, who plays the title character in the popular Disney TV series “Hannah Montana” is engaged* to marry Liam Hemsworth, 22, who starred in “The Hunger Games.”
They have been dating* since they met while co-starring in “The Last Song” in 2009, a film  about a talented teenage musician who has a difficult relationship with her father.
The film got terrible reviews from the critics but it was commercially  successful and, apparently,* the start of a great romance.
“What happened* happened, and we’ve been together two and a half years,”  Hemsworth said.  “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending* to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.”
Cyrus has gone through a lot of controversy in recent years as she is trying to transition  from child star to more adult roles.  There have been photographs of her which many have said were provocative, and allegations* of her smoking marijuana.  However, none of the incidents have been enough to seriously damage* her “good girl” image.
Cyrus, who is the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, has been a star since she was 12 years old.  She is listed* as Hollywood’s richest teenager, with a net worth of over $100 million.
Hemsworth is an Australian actor who once had a role on the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours, which also launched* the careers of Dani and Kylie Minogue.
He enjoys surfing and has two older brothers who are also actors.
